Hurricane Katrina Could Cause National Gas Crisis
01 Sep 2005, Los Angeles, CA, USA — Sep 01, 2005; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Fuel shortages and rising gas prices threaten much of the nation as the Gulf of Mexico’s refineries remained closed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The Gulf’s refineries pump more than 1 million barrels of oil a day, a third of the nation’s supply. Gas prices in Los Angeles reach over the three dollar mark having gone up about 20 cents since the hurricane. As we head into this Labor Day weekend many fear the prices will continue to rise.
